Nottinghamshire Police are investigating after a disturbance in Ruddington this week during which it’s alleged two teenage boys chased and menaced two girls with a knife.
A Ruddington mum, who prefers not to be named, reported the incident at St Mary’s Community Park to police, and also posted this warning on Facebook: “My oldest daughter was on the park with her friend after school and two young boys chased after them and pulled a knife on them. The boys are about 14-15 years old. Just keep a eye out!” Subsequently she revealed her daughter had been “scared” but is now “okay”.
Officers confirm they were called shortly after 5.15pm on Tuesday 20th December after reports of a disturbance in the St Mary’s Park area of our village. Police were told a lad was chased from the park. Witnesses subsequently reported that a knife was shown to them. Officers say nobody was injured during the incident, however two 14-year-old boys were later arrested on suspicion of affray and then released on police bail. No weapons were found.
Sergeant Sarah Merrall, of Nottinghamshire Police, says: “Reports of this nature are extremely rare in Ruddington and so we understand the considerable concern this incident has caused. Two people were arrested shortly after we were called and investigations into what happened are ongoing.”
Officers are further reassuring local residents it didn’t appear that the knife was ‘wielded’ nor was anyone being chased at knife point.
